Saturday Night ‘ART’ Fever!

Here at FLICK HQ there are certain things we like to do on our weekends… normally it’s whiling away hours gaming from Dragon Quest to Days Gone, however this particular Saturday was one we shall not forget!…

Team FLICK were invited by the bad-ass bunch who put MANGA on the map for EVERYONE - Saturday AM.

How did we fancy being guest judges on their March Art Madness review show?!

HELL YEAH!

And now we know why they call it March Art Madness!

Throughout the month artists have been battling over four knockout rounds. The only weapon - their ART!

Out of the blocks with 64 artists down to 16 by Round Three - it is B R U T A L

Round Three’s theme was to create a SOLITAIRE card! Both myself a.k.a ‘the JOKER of the pack’ and Ian ‘Bond villain’ Masters (you’ll have to listen to the show to get it!) joined the super-cool Saturday AM team to record the show.

UK <3 US

Getting over our mix of cross-atlantic accents, the review show was led by judges Whyt Manga, {Odunze Oguguo}, artist and creator behind one of Saturday AM’s slickest manga comic series APPLE BLACK & Frederick Jones, from My Futprint Entertainment, passionate publisher behind all the Saturday brands.

Aired on Whyt’s arty and frankly mesmerising YouTube channel, we had the heavy but honoured mission to judge the entries! Talking art is not a problem for us but judging these TALENTED artists was TOUGH! Luckily, we had some professionals on the panel!

Along with Fred and Whyt, it was a delight (and downright hoot) to meet Jey Odin artist & writer of the hugely popular Hammer manga comic featured in Saturday AM and Rashad ‘the ART-god’ Millhouse artist & creator of Outland in Saturday PM.

Card designs were based around college basketball mascots from Tigers to Beavers. The diversity of ideas IS a true testament to the tournament. With poppin’ colours, strong character designs and such pure originality from the entries - our minds were BLOWN.

The match-ups were heartbreakingly hard to choose between. I know that Fred wanted a good FLICK FIGHT and he nearly got it! Tension built as Ian and I couldn’t decide who our one vote should go to for some of the pairings, resulting in a few split votes. Thankfully the final decisions were not ours and it is YOU out there who gets to vote. BIG THANKS to Jacklyn Rinde who kept us all in line, to time and helped with those sticky split votes!

We FLICK our hats off to EVERY ARTIST. It must be nerve-racking to hear REAL artists (and us) critique your work LIVE! Up next is the RESULTS and ROUND FOUR! We are SO excited to hear the final results of R3 and are on the edge of our seats as we move into that elite eight round.

BEST of LUCK to ALL the artists - we are so proud to sponsor and be involved in M.A.M, the toughest art tournament EVER!

Thank you to ALL the Saturday AM team - Fred, Whyt, Jackie, Jey and Rashad.

It was a FLICKIN’ BLAST!
