Artist Interview - Riccardo Stecca (Pt. 1)

Who is your favourite Flick artist/deck currently? πŸ’

- Bhavya Patunjal! (Impeccable India Deck!)

Which card game do you prefer, Solitaire, Pyramid or Elevens? β™£οΈ

- Solitaire

Who was the first person you told about designing a deck for FlickπŸ˜‡

- I think it was a "conejero" friend. (Conejero is a native of Lanzarote!)

Dark, milk or white chocolate? πŸ«

- Extra dark, the darkest. I often buy 100% Cocoa, practically the squeezed cocoa beans! It can be found in some chocolate shops in Italy.

Your Pixies & Plants deck is packed full of pinks and purples. Is this a hint to some of your favourite colours? πŸ’œ

- Blue is my favourite colour, mixing it with purple you can get a lot of variations that allow me to colour almost everything. I don't really like mixing many colours together but blues and purples work very well with me! As playing cards are often red and black, I liked the idea of colouring with only two tones.

When was the last time you laughed until your belly hurt? πŸ˜Ή

- Luckily it happens to me quite often! So often that I don't make a note of when it happens. probably last month...

What did you study at college? (I understand it is around scientific studies but do tell us more!) πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ“

- I did a management engineering day, but after seeing the people and the atmosphere I turned to environmental engineering.

What is your dream job? πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³

- A Painter! To Paint!

Who is your biggest fan? πŸ¦š

- … I don’t know….

What is your view right now? πŸ”

- Challenging question ... I have a decidedly positive and optimistic view, regarding almost everything. The older I get, the more I feel at peace with almost everything. I think it is also due to the trips I made and to the people I have met and who led me to know different aspects of cultures and therefore to better understand ours too.

I was also lucky enough to travel around Europe playing (I play bass and double bass) with a group of friends several years ago. Trying to do positive things or what you really want to do leads to a more relaxed mentality and allows you to accept everything better. I think.

Which is your favourite playing card suit and why? β™ οΈβ™₯️♦️♣️

- Clubs! In Italian it is "fiori" which means flowers, it has always given me an idea of something natural and woodland-like.

Three things you have to take with you on holiday? πŸ–οΈ

1) My hat, useful and cool! I bought it almost 15 years ago and when I'm outdoors I almost always wear it.

2) A comfortable sleeping bag, I may have to sleep in random places!

3) ...

Who is your favourite artist? Or inspiration? πŸ’‘

- I have so many ... I have always liked Gustav Klimt very much. Eiichiro Oda is one of the best cartoonists of all time. Callen Schaub as a modern painter. Tiziano Terzani as a writer. Renaud Garcia Fons as a musician. These people have certainly inspired me a lot!

Red, white or no wine? πŸ·
- Red

What is your 'go-to' art tool? πŸ–‹οΈ

- Pen.

What is the strangest design request you have received? Don't worry you don't need to mention any names! πŸ‘½

- To draw a boiled egg! It needed to be really realistic. I made it good! And take a portrait without ever looking down at the paper, it's fun! Try it! (FS - Haha! Great idea, Riccardo - this could be a FLICK HQ team challenge one day!)

Where is your favourite part of the world? πŸ—ΊοΈ

- Lanzarote, such a beautiful island. And Kumejima, in Japan, another beautiful island. Both with great people who live there.

How has life changed for you in Lockdown? πŸ”’

- Thankfully, practically nothing has changed so much for me. Last year the Italian law did not even oblige to wear a mask on the beach and outdoors, living a lot outside I did not feel any burden. Then I went back to Lanzarote again where life is always quiet and pleasant. I think I am and have been very lucky!

What is your earliest memory of playing video games and what one? πŸ‘Ύ

- Altered Beast! for the Sega Mega Drive during the late 80's, early 90's. It was my brother's console and the first game was this one and Sonic! However the best game for me will always be Zelda the Wind Waker! Fantastic! Graphically revolutionary! Wow!

πŸ’Œ Thank you Riccardo! FLICKERS stay tuned for Part II… coming soon! πŸ’Œ
