Artist Interview - Kirsty Fabiyi
So happy to grab a quick chat with our Flick Solitaire artist, Kirsty Fabiyi… not content with one deck but two including the most recent retro inspired Candy! We’ve gotta feeling that the future looks bright for our bold and beautiful student and Flick Solitaire friend!
Hello Kirsty, thank you for sharing some of your time for the Flick Solitaire fans! What are you currently studying?
- I currently study Fine Art at the University of Oxford, England.
What do you love to draw/design?
- I also love working on projects that involve graphics, digital product design and 3D Illustration.
Who or what inspires you?
- I get inspired by artists and creative people working in a variety of disciplines and especially artists that work with different types of technology.
What inspired the Flick Solitaire Candy deck? Please tell us all more?!
- I loved experimenting with illustration with this deck. I wanted to work with vintage and worn textures but contrasting it with a bold and modern colour scheme. I enjoyed the process of designing the playing cards for the games Solitaire, Pyramid and Elevens - seeing the decks evolve over months and it was great to develop the design in a way that would make the designs shine on a small mobile screen. I started with an intricate style and similar colour palette but through the process of simplifying the design, I was able to reach the final design which made the colours stand out even more.
What’s happening in Kirsty’s world right now?
- Right now I’m working on a 3D animation and illustration project for a clothing brand I’ve co-founded this summer. I love seeing the cards in Solitaire!
Coffee or tea?
- Not a major coffee fan, I prefer fruity or herbal teas.
