Artist Interview - Dorothy Livelo - Pt. 2

What is your favourite card game?

- This is sooo hard! My family loves tabletop games and we adore so many card and board games at the moment. Well, aside from FLICK SOLITAIRE 😊, I would have to say I enjoy playing this card game called “Love Letter!” It’s a fun and quick game where players’ goal is to send their “love letter” to the Princess or get rid of other players! I’ve played it numerous times and I’m still not tired of it! It is very enjoyable, especially when you win! 😎

Which FLICK artist and deck do you love?

- Elora Pautrat’s Tea Matsuri! Such pretty colours and teapots! 🫖

How was it working with the FLICK team?

- It was such a pleasure working with Ian, Alan and the rest of the team! They were so accommodating, and I really appreciate their insights and/or suggestions during the production process. I appreciate the quick responses and updates very much!  Everything was also well-organized, so I didn’t have a hard time sending my files! Thank you so much to the team for the warm welcome and of course, this opportunity to design a deck of cards! 😊

Words of advice for artists who would like to design their own deck?

- From my experience, I believe that once you have a solid concept, you will know what to design for the elements/assets needed. Everything will eventually run smoothly from there! 😊 If possible, make sure that you design what resonates with you the most because it would make designing/illustrating much more enjoyable.

What does art mean to you?

- Art is something that makes me feel at ease and joy the most! I think it really is the best way to express myself which enables me to convey my feelings to others. I believe art can be something like a blanket on a cold morning, where it continues to give comfort and warmth. I do really love creating art because it can also be a means of communication and somewhat like a universal language where anyone around the world can understand you or even give their own interpretations. I believe that's what makes art so beautiful! 😊

Did someone or something inspire you to become an artist?

- Video games and cartoons were my main inspirations! I remember feeling in awe and so immersed in how these entertainment mediums were created, and so, I just had to learn more about the creative industry. 🎮

When do you feel most creative?

- Either in the morning or at night! Sometimes I would just scroll through my Instagram/Twitter and get inspiration from fellow artists and that would spark my creativity. ☀️ 🌙

We LOVE your DTIYS and StillHereStillLife challenges! What keeps you motivated to draw?

- Thank you so much for the love! <3 Honestly, oftentimes I feel like my art is lacking (especially because I feel like there’s always room for improvement) but what motivates me to keep pursuing is the fact that there are people who look forward to my illustrations and how they always give words of encouragement and love to the things I have posted. Most of all, I believe it really comes down to my passion and drive to keep improving and to be the best version of myself every day!

We have noticed a few of your video game character concepts on Instagram - what is your favourite video game?

- Another challenging question! Haha! 😊 Well, at the moment, I am really engrossed in the world of Genshin Impact! I enjoy the gameplay and the characters so much! I recommend this for those who love anime as well!
