Artist Interview - Bhavya Patunjal
A very Happy Diwali to you - how do you celebrate Diwali?
- Happy Diwali to you too! I watch a nice movie along with my family and we share a nice dinner. My parents perform the routine rituals and I just relax and enjoy the day.
How many games have you won on Flick Solitaire - do you have a tip for the fans?
- Even more than me, my dad loves Flick Solitaire. He plays it any chance he gets, last I checked he was somewhere in the hundreds.
Who is your favourite superhero?
- I enjoy reading comics and my favourite characters are Spider-Man and Batman. Spider-Man because of his quirkiness and relatability, and Batman because his rogue's gallery is the best!
Marvel or DC?
- Have to go with DC for this one, the stories are way darker and exhilarating. I am not a fan of the typical marvel humour in their movies but, I still enjoy them.
How do you like to relax?
- Drawing/sketching while listening to some nice background music is the most relaxing activity for me. Before this stupid pandemic, swimming for an hour every day used to help me clear out my mind. I hope I can get back to that routine soon.
Your Impeccable India deck is packed with real Kings & Queens of historical India. Please tell us why you chose this for a deck? How difficult was it to recreate these iconic characters?
- India is known for several things - cool outfits, diverse culture, vivid festivals and delightful cuisines. But not many people in the west know about the history of India. I wanted to shine some light on that aspect through my deck. It was challenging for me to make sure that the characters have a likeness to the real people and don't hurt the sentiments of the various communities that still worship them as idols.
How do you find your very beautiful ‘Bhavya’ art aesthetic?
- I think my style is contemporary and utilises striking and empowered colours to celebrate the aspects of India that are very interesting to me. Like any other artist, every 6 months, I realise what an idiot I was 6 months ago hehe :)
It is your last night on earth, what do you do?
- I would probably just talk to the people I like as much as I can. Wouldn't want to spend the last night alone.
What are you working on right now?
- I am working on an illustration series on childhood.
The most awesome video game?... (apart from Flick Solitaire, of course!)
- Haha! I don't play many mobile games (apart of Flick Solitaire), The last one I played and thoroughly enjoyed was Call of Duty
Have you ever had a fashion disaster?
- Every fashion attempt I make ends up being a disaster, that's why I always go for comfortable/tested clothing.
What inspires your drawing and designs?
- I like to take inspiration from street photography, Pinterest, ancient Indian art, iconic paintings etc
What are your plans for 2022?
- 2020 and 2021 have taught me that planning early is of no use at all. Just staying healthy and happy will be a priority. If everything opens up, I would love to swim and hang out at a beach maybe.
So, here at the Flick Solitaire family we hear you enjoy snacks? Tell us more about this!? What is the snack you couldn't live without?
- Can't live without Rice puffs and dry fruits, I like to munch on something or the other while working, which helps me keep focus.
Which series are you binging on at the moment?
- Currently, I am watching The Good Doctor which is a wholesome story about a surgeon who has autism but is also really intelligent as he has savant syndrome. The series has its emotional turmoils along with some really interesting medical cases.
India is blessed with such beautiful animals - do you have a favourite?
- My favourite animal is the koala because everyone finds them cute even if all they do is sleep. I kind of envy them hehe.
What musical instrument(s) can you play, or wish you could?
- Sadly, I can't but I wish I knew how to play the piano.
What is your favourite book?
- Design as Art by Bruno Munari is a nice read. I like non-fiction more than fiction books. For fiction, I believe that the visual medium (movies, TV series etc) does a better job at world-building.
Congrats on passing your Computer Science degree from Bennetts Uni - how difficult or strange was it studying during a pandemic?
- Studying was easy, leaving the university and not getting a chance to say goodbye to my friends and batch-mates was difficult. Till now, corporate life also doesn't seem that bad.
With an ever growing impressive portfolio in visual design - which business logo would you most like to redesign?
- Coca Cola’s identity is so iconic, I would love to redesign its logo.
Bhavvya is based in Delhi, and graduated in Computer Science from Bennett University (Times of India Group) in Uttar Pradesh. Talented and gifted, his hunger to achieve continues as he pursues an obviously destined career path in design. Bhavya was spotted on Instagram by Ian….
“Adding to the Flick Solitaire family is important, I want artists to see the amazing and diverse artwork that we feature in-game to inspire more, much much more and encourage artists to try their hand at designing a deck. I instantly loved the look of Bhavya’s work - such an amazing style - and he’s only 21 years old!”
